We have seven chickens. These girls produce the best eggs to accompany the lemons to make the best lemon bars. My boys love feeding the chickens. These hens are the same age and my youngest son- a mere year and a half now. The chickens are located in the garden which makes it convenient to throw in weeds and scraps.
California passed a “Community Food Producers” law in January of 2016.
A Community Food Producer may raise chickens and sell up to 15 dozen unrefrigerated shell eggs per month.
Eggs should be refrigerated within 36 hours after the eggs are laid. Eggs can be purchased for $2.50 per dozen which covers the chicken feed. Guests are welcome to visit the chickens in the garden during their stay.
